Why Don't You Deserve It?
You’ve got a pretty simple Wishlist of future desires for yourself. You google flights to Europe and fantasize about just clicking the “Book” button. You’ve had your eye on a complete and luxurious furniture set that would take the sacred space of your bedroom from drab to fab. You’d love to sign up for that women’s yoga retreat for a full mind-body transformation that’s only hosted once a year.
But you’re not there yet, and the reason lies in the why.
You think you must collect reasons for why you deserve an experience that is only for you.
And the list better be a long one before you’ve earned anything from the Wishlist!
The list of reasons you haven’t earned the Wishlist may look a bit like this:
You must be at your best physically and financially.
You must make sure everyone else’s needs have been met first.
You must earn it, which often involves making sacrifices in other areas in order to “balance the scales”.
But let’s flip this coin over and examine it from the other side, shall we?
Instead of asking yourself why you (you of all people!) would need an experience that’s all about you, see how this question roles off the tongue:
Why don’t you deserve it?
Try telling yourself you don’t deserve it.
That is, after all, the subtext of “I haven’t earned this experience yet.” That’s the flip side of the “Why Do You Deserve It?” Coin. You are subconsciously enforcing the notion that you are not deserving of experiences that are solely for your benefit.
When you put it that way, that question hits a little harder, and the edges leave a mark.
These same roadblocks to gifting yourself experiences apply when it comes to scheduling a fine art portrait session.
Do you not deserve to feel
Prioritized?
Free?
Beautiful?
Artistic?
Powerful?
Creative?
Important?
At this point you should be jumping up off your desk chair, couch cushion, or stretch mat to say, “What?! That’s crazy, Of course I do!” At this point, believing you have not earned the right to feel those things should sound just plain silly!
You, you of all people, deserve to experience yourself as a work of art. You deserve it, not someday, not after you’ve met your list of criteria, but right now.
Whenever you’re ready, those experiences are yours to enjoy.
And you, of all people, can not stand in your way.
